UK, US and EU Shoe Sizes Explained (With a Simple Conversion Chart)

Quick answer: for women, your US size is your UK size plus 2 (UK 5 = US 7). For men, your US size is your UK size plus 1 (UK 9 = US 10). EU sizes don't follow a neat rule and vary a little between makers, so always check the EU number shown next to each size on the product page.

Why EU sizes don't line up exactly
UK and US sizes move in steps of a third of an inch, while EU sizes move in smaller steps. That means one UK size can match more than one EU size, and different factories round them differently. This is why we show all three on many of our product pages, for example UK 5 · US 7 · EU 38. If the size picker shows all three, go by the UK or US number you normally wear and use the EU number as a check.
Is the size on a Rowan product page UK or US?
On our UK store, sizes are UK sizes. Where a style shows a combined label like UK 6 · US 8 · EU 40, you can choose by whichever system you know. Every product page also has a size chart next to the size picker with foot-length measurements in centimetres, which is the most reliable way to choose.
How to measure your feet at home
- Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, heel touching the wall, wearing the socks you'd usually wear with the shoes.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe. Do both feet: most people have one foot slightly longer.
- Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres and use the longer foot.
- Measure later in the day. Feet are often a little larger in the afternoon and evening than first thing.
- Compare your measurement with the size chart on the product page.
Wide feet: length isn't the whole story
If shoes in your usual length feel tight across the front of the foot, the problem is usually width, not length. A style with a roomier, rounded toe area can give you more space without changing your size. Our comfort shoes and Women's Wide Toe Box Shoes are cut with more room at the front.
If the size isn't right
You have 30 days from delivery to return a pair. Shoes should be in their original packaging and in original, wearable condition, without signs of heavy wear. For standard returns, return postage and a 15% restocking fee apply. If we send the wrong item or size, or anything arrives damaged or faulty, we cover the return and refund you in full.
